About

Dr Marios Hadjipavlou

Consultant Urological Surgeon & Andrologist Clinical Associate Professor

Dr Marios Hadjipavlou is a Consultant Urological Surgeon, Andrologist and Clinical Associate Professor. He consults at Nicosia Medical Centre (Piraeus 36, Strovolos) and performs surgical procedures and endoscopies at El Greco Medical Centre, Nicosia. He qualified from King's College London School of Medicine in 2009 and spent more than a decade completing his higher surgical training and consultant posts in London and the South East of England, developing a particular focus on benign prostatic hyperplasia, kidney stone disease, and prostate cancer diagnostics.

With more than 6,000 surgical procedures performed — including over 800 HoLEP cases and more than 1,000 stone procedures — he brings a depth of operative experience to his practice in Cyprus that was previously available to patients only in the UK. He has trained surgical colleagues in the HoLEP technique and contributes to undergraduate medical education at the University of Nicosia Medical School.

Clinical Focus

  • HoLEP — Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate

A definitive, size-independent surgical treatment for symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia. More than 800 cases performed, including prostate glands exceeding 400 g. Dr Hadjipavlou has trained surgical colleagues in this technique at Guy's Hospital, London.

  • Ureteroscopic lithotripsy with Thulium Fibre Laser

Minimally invasive, incisionless treatment for kidney and ureteric stones. Most procedures completed as day-case surgery. More than 1,000 stone procedures performed.

  • Transperineal MRI-fusion targeted prostate biopsy

An image-guided approach to prostate cancer diagnosis. The transperineal route substantially reduces the risk of post-procedural infection and allows systematic and targeted sampling under general anaesthetic. More than 400 procedures performed.

  • Bladder tumour surgery and intravesical therapies

Endoscopic resection of bladder tumours (TURBT) for diagnosis and treatment of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, with intravesical instillation of BCG or mitomycin C where clinically indicated.

  • Andrological surgery

Including microsurgical varicocele repair, hydrocele repair, circumcision, and vasectomy.

Minimally Invasive BPH Treatments

In addition to HoLEP, Dr Hadjipavlou offers Rezūm® (intraprostatic water vapour therapy) and UroLift® (prostatic lift) for carefully selected patients. These office-based procedures may be appropriate in men who wish to avoid general anaesthesia or who wish to preserve ejaculatory function.

Special Interest: Focal Therapy for Localised Prostate Cancer

For a small subset of carefully selected men with localised prostate cancer, focal therapy may be appropriate as an alternative to whole-gland treatment. Dr Hadjipavlou trained in high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) at Imperial College Hospital and in cryotherapy at University College Hospital, London. Patient suitability is assessed on a case-by-case basis following multidisciplinary discussion.

Previous UK Practice Posts

Dr Hadjipavlou previously held Consultant Urological Surgeon posts at Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust in London, where he trained surgical colleagues in the HoLEP technique. He also held private practice posts at the Harley Street Clinic, London Bridge Hospital, and HCA London Bridge Hospital.
